Renovating Your House? Consider Temporary Self Storage

When your house is a mess from renovation, you need some self storage to stay organised.

Since the start of the pandemic many UK homeowners have chosen to invest in making their home a better place to live. In fact, as a nation we have spent over £55 billion doing it.

The long-term benefits of renovating a home include boosting its value, increasing its aesthetic appeal and making it more functional. Whilst the renovation is happening though, renovating a house can be really stressful, logistically challenging and cause a lot of mess.

    Renovation Challenges

Whilst the builders and workmen are doing all the work on your house, there’s a lot for you as a homeowner to take care of. One major challenge is the mess created by doors being knocked down, walls and flooring being pulled up, and paint being applied. Dust and debris finds its way everywhere, even in rooms with the doors shut.

Another challenge is figuring out what to do with the furniture that is in your house, especially where the main work is being done. It needs to be out of the way for the work to be done, and ideally, it won’t clog up the rest of your house. Even if you do have space for it somewhere, it is at risk of damage and dust throughout the renovation process.

    Self Storage For House Renovation

A really handy solution to the issues above is to place your furniture into temporary self storage during the renovation process. Large cabinets, sofas, chairs, tables, shelving, white goods and more can all be placed into cheap self storage. They will remain dry, secure and safe in your unit until the renovation is finished.

Self storage can also be useful for items you are using for a renovation or remodelling of your home. Fittings, decorating supplies and tools can all be stored inside a self storage unit until they are needed. Storing things in this way is especially useful if you haven’t much spare room at home to store them.

If you have to move your living areas for a short time, self storage can help you clear that space. For example, the spare bedroom contents can be cleared into self storage so that the space can be used for a kettle and microwave etc.

Lastly, self storage can be useful for packing away items like curtains, sheets, cushions and other soft furnishings prone to collecting dust. Rather than face damaging them or having to clean them at the end of the renovation, you can simply store them and then place them when the work is done.

A Helping Hand From Short Term Self Storage

If you’re concerned that you will need to take out a long contract for self storage, don’t worry that’s not the case. Self storage is more flexible than many people realise, and doesn’t need to involve long-term contracts.

Self storage can be used for as little as a month or less by many facilities. Do check with the site before signing any contracts to make sure that you only have the unit for as long as you need it. It is also worth checking about contract extensions in case the renovation goes over time, as many do.
